Homemade Vanilla

Homemade Vanilla~
There are many reasons to make things homemade, sometimes it is less expensive, or you are able to create something unique, and sometimes as is the case with vanilla it's just better when you do it yourself. Here, I am going to show you how to make regular vanilla and to add a dash of creativity we will also make bourbon vanilla and rum vanilla.
Ingredients
  • Regular Vanilla
  • 1 bottle of vodka, your preference
  • 2 vanilla beans, slit down the middle
  • Bourbon Vanilla
  • 1 bottle bourbon, your preference
  • 2 vanilla beans, slit down the middle
  • Rum Vanilla
  • 1 bottle rum, your preference
  • 2 vanilla beans, slit down the middle
Instructions
  1. Regular Vanilla
  2. Open bottle of vodka, add 2 vanilla beans and place cap back on firmly closing. Set aside for at least 3-6 weeks before using. Use as you would vanilla extract or flavoring. I prefer to let my vanilla age for 6 months. Making two bottles at a time will ensure you never run out.
  3. Bourbon Vanilla
  4. Open bottle of bourbon, add 2 vanilla beans and place cap back on firmly closing. Set aside for at least 3-6 weeks. The longer it ages the better the flavor. Use as you would to replace bourbon and vanilla in a recipe. Since you will use this less frequently just make 1 bottle at a time.
  5. Rum Vanilla
  6. Open bottle of rum, and add 2 vanilla beans and place cap back on firmly closing. Set aside for 3-6 weeks. The longer it ages the better the flavor. Use as you would to replace rum and vanilla in a recipe. Since you will use this less frequently just make 1 bottle at a time.
  7. The clear liquors will change to a beautiful golden brown as it ages. You will know when the vanilla is ready to use when you open it and smell the sweet aroma of vanilla and not alcohol.
