Salsa Verde~
This green salsa is made with tomatillos instead of tomatoes, which gives it the classic green-verde color. It can be served with corn chips or to accompany any Mexican dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pint tomatillos* (3/4 pound)
- 1 small white onion*
- ½ cup cilantro leaves*, fresh (or substitute with parsley* or basil*)
- 1 clove garlic*
- 1 squeeze ½ lime*
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- 2 jalapeños* peppers
- Directions
- Turn on broiler.
- Remove husk from tomatillos and rinse. Peel garlic.
- Cut tomatillos and garlic in half and place sliced end down on a foiled cookie sheet or pizza pan. Broil for a few minutes until tops turn lightly black, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- In a blender, place tomatillos and garlic along with the rest of the ingredients. Blend until chopped and smooth in texture. Salt to taste and place in refrigerator to cool.
- Verde salsa is great with chips, tacos, chili, bean dishes and more.
